4 Day Machu Picchu Tour from Cusco

4 day Machu Picchu Tour from Cusco: Embark on an unforgettable tour on this 4 day tour from Cusco, Sacred Valley, and Machu Picchu on a fully supported trip by a private Peru Summit Adventures team to get your experience to the next level.

Are you short on time and wish to experience the best of Cusco, Sacred Valley, Machu Picchu, and Rainbow Mountain? then this is the tour to go with. From the intricate architecture that is Cusco to the natural haven that is the Sacred Valley, the colorful-striped Rainbow Mountain, to the magical ruins of Machu Picchu, every day will be filled to the brim with wonder and joy.

High in the Peruvian Andes, the citadel of Machu Picchu rests amid knife-edged ridges and vertical slopes draped in emerald cloud forest. Hidden from the explorers until 1911, when a Quechua guide led Yale historian Hiram Bingham to the ruins, the breathtaking Inca citadel was mesmerizing even in its dereliction. Built on a granite mountaintop close to the high peaks and sun, its intricate architecture reveals the ingenuity of its 15th-century designers. Granite boulders were the main material to build stunning constructions like the Temple of the Sun where the rocks fit so precisely and there was no necessary mortar to join the boulders

The site is also a testimony of the Incas’ extraordinary knowledge of astronomy, with many buildings aligning with heavenly events such as the summer and winter solstice sunrise. Today, it is an extraordinary site like a living Inca Museum, a perfect place to learn about the Inca architectural methods, agricultural techniques, urban designs, astronomy, and much more with a knowledgeable guide.

Besides the iconic Machu Picchu, you will experience the cobblestone alleys in Cusco, the scenic Sacred Valley, and the Rainbow Mountain set in the highland regions of Cusco–4 day Machu Picchu Tour.

This trip is officially operated by Peru Summit Adventures, a 100% local tour operator based in Cusco.

Trip Itinerary

DAY 1: Arrival in Cusco in the Morning - Afternoon City Tour

Soak up the extraordinary constructions of Sacsayhuaman, the temple of the sun, the most important temple in the Inca empire, and walk on the alleys of Cusco–a Unesco site

To carry out this tour as planned, we strongly recommend you arrive in Cusco between 8 AM and 11 AM, or you can even arrive in Cusco City a day before the tour’s beginning date.

Your Peru Summit Adventures private guide will be waiting for you at the airport of Cusco, upon your arrival, you will meet him and be transferred to your hotel in the historic center of Cusco, where you will have time to rest.

At 1 PM, our tour of the unmissable places of Cusco starts, we will come to your hotel to pick you up, we will then visit the temple of the sun Coricancha, a breathtaking place where the Inca used the finest architectural technique to make amazing temples, which were for their deities.

Next, you will drive for about 15 minutes to reach Sacsayhuaman, another great Inca religious site, unlike Coricancha, Sacsayhuaman is located outside of Cusco and features otherworldly constructions; constructions made by massive limestone boulders that reach about 200 tons and 23 feet tall, these boulders fit perfectly each another, you will learn a lot about the ancient architectural methods, the history of each site from your private guide.

After Sacsayhuaman, you will visit a small llama farm, a perfect place to learn about the South American camelids and get great snapshots. After the llama place, we will drive back to the city of Cusco where we will still walk on the typical alleyways before reaching our hotel.

DAY 2: Sacred Valley Tour - Afternoon Travel to Machu Picchu Town

Take in the picturesque towns, Inca ruins, Incan agricultural terraces, and enjoy a scenic train ride to Machu Picchu.

At 7:00 AM, your Peru Summit Adventures guide will come to your hotel to pick you up, we will then drive to Maras Salt Mines, a main salt source, that has been used since the pre-Incan times, and today the locals still farm the salt by hands as the Incans used to do it.

Our next place to explore is Moray with rounded shape terraces, which have different types of temperatures at each platform (terraces), the main function of the terraces was to adapt new plants or plants from hotter temperatures to cooler temperatures and vice versa such as potatoes, beans, corn, quinoa, passion fruits, etc., after Moray we will drive to Ollantaytambo an Incan City from the XV century, famous for its great temple of the sun whose 100 tons construction rocks were brought from 8 km/ 5 miles away to build a unique building on a hilltop.

Later in the afternoon, we will take the train to Machu Picchu Town where we will have overnight at the cozy hotel. Your train leaves at 3:37 PM, your guide will assist you to the train station to take the right train, the train journey is for 1 hour and 40 minutes, upon your arrival at the train station of Machu Picchu Town (around 5:05 PM), someone from the hotel will be waiting for you at the station, you will then just walk about 5 – 10 minutes to the hotel.

The journey on the train is unguided since the local train where the locals travel leaves 2 hours later but this is not a big deal because you will be assisted until the train station and assigned to the right carriage, upon your arrival in Machu Picchu Town a person from your hotel will be there to assist you to the hotel, onboard there are a couple of train crew who will gladly help you if you need anything.

DAY 4: Rainbow Mountain Or Pisac Ruins Tour - Depart for Home at Night

A short challenging hike to discover the paled colors of the Rainbow Mountain and soak up the striking highland views of Cusco.

If you are NOT interested in Rainbow Mountain, a half-day tour to Pisac ruins in Sacred Valley will be arranged and the same afternoon will be dropped off at the airport of Cusco for your flight to Lima. If so, please let us know at the moment of tour inquiry.

At 4:00 AM, our guide will pick you up from your hotel (we start early to beat the crowds at Rainbow Mountain, otherwise, you are in the middle of 800-1000 people jostling for pictures), we will then drive for about 3 hours to get to the trailhead (4,450m/ 14,596ft), en route we will stop for. breakfast at a local restaurant; upon our arrival at the trailhead, we will start hiking uphill for 2 hours, we will take our time along the trail as we enjoy the beautiful views of the snow capped mountains, upon our arrival at the Rainbow Mountain, we will spend about 30 – 45 minutes to enjoy the unique views.

Rainbow Mountain is located at 5,035 meters above sea level (16,519 ft), this place is usually windy, sometimes in the morning could be foggy with light rain and light snow, thus, it’s very important to come prepared for this tour with proper warm clothes like down jacket, rain jackets, rain pants, gloves, warm hat, etc. You will see a list of essentials for this hike.

After having enough time, we’ll return to the car parking, on this way back the trail is all downhill. We will have lunch at a local restaurant around 1:30 pm, after that, we will take our transportation back to Cusco.

At our arrival in Cusco City, we will drop you off at the airport of Cusco to take the flight to Lima the same evening, we strongly recommend booking the flights after 7:30 PM. Or you can spend another night in Cusco and fly to Lima the following morning and connect your flight home. if so, please let us know at the moment of tour booking to provide more information.

Note: You can rent horses to ride from the locals, there will be many of them along the trail to rent, the cost is between 60 PEN ($20) to 100 PEN ($35). This may help you to reach the mountain easily, however, the horses do not reach the mountain itself, they will drop you off about 30 to 40 minutes away from the Rainbow Mountain.

What Makes Us Different!… Here’s, Why You Should Book With Us!

Making a choice of your right travel company/ tour operator is the most important decision you will make as you make your plans for a long-anticipated dreamed adventure. At first glance, some companies may seem cheaper. However, when you research a little deeper, you will see why traveling with Peru Summit Adventures assures that you will have the most memorable travel experience possible. In fact, we guarantee it, our TripAdvisor reviews say that.

Making genuine and sustainable itineraries often translate to real costs, with a host of responsible travel practices that underpin our prices, here are the reasons why you should go with us!

Little insignificant details make all the difference to get a successful trip and an unforgettable experience, that’s the point where our tailor-made trip specialists and destination experts work intensely. No stone is left unturned in our quest to deliver exceptional private tours, trekking tours, and expeditions in Peru. With us, it’s all about you and your traveling mates too, for sure! We take your wants, needs, time constraints, budgets, and personal travel style into account to deliver experiences that are far from standard.

Safety is at the core of everything we do at Peru Summit Adventures. There is nothing that we take more seriously. Put away your concerns and start enjoying the trip of your life knowing that you are on safe and sound hands. Peru Summit Adventures is a registered trademark and a licensed company by the Peruvian Ministry of Tourism (MINCETUR).
What an awesome to travel with someone who is from the same destination, a professional expert, it’s how you get the first-hand information. Our Peru Summit Adventures staff are friendly, funny, with deep knowledge on the route and destination, and great storytellers. We love what we do and it’s obvious. A simple concept, yes, but it makes all the difference. The team at Peru Summit Adventures all live and breathe the trip, experience, adventure, (you’ll see this when you arrive!). We love what we do, and it’s obvious. From the moment you arrive, you’ll feel the buzz and excitement that Peru Summit Adventures offers.
Could you imagine trying to hike silently along an isolated trail, carefully not disturbing shy wildlife, with 10 or 20 other travelers? Or walking on a remote area to explore the pristine wilderness with dozens of other tourists at your side? We know meaningful nature encounters must be undertaken in small groups. That’s why our trips come with an average of just four travelers, by far the smallest groups in the tourism industry across the country. This not only guarantees you more personal close-up wildlife experience, but a less-impact presence on the earth’s brittle natural places we love.

Besides, Machu Picchu offers one of the world’s most spellbinding travel experiences. But it’s also a world-renowned destination, and touring the site in a big group with multitudes of tourists shoving for photos, and competing to hear the guide, your once in a lifetime visit to this World Heritage Site may lose its magic. Our Machu Picchu Trips are scheduled with an average of just four travelers, allowing for a deeper exploration of the lost city of the Incas, with our Local Experts / Tour Leaders.

We are very confident the quality of our Machu Picchu Tour 3 Days will get your expectations and that you will savor the best possible of cultural travel experience, nature travel experience, and adventure travel experience if you are dissatisfied, we’ll happily give you credit for an extra trip or for a future journey. It’s, to our knowledge, the best guarantee in the travel business.

We don’t believe any other tour companies make comparable trips when you take into account our unique itineraries and signature itineraries, impressive locations, small groups and quality Trek Leaders / Tour Leaders. But, should you come across a similar itinerary or matching itinerary of our quality at a cheaper price, even within 45 days after booking with us, we will happily refund the difference. It’s how we deliver our promise.
While other tour companies generally cancel their trips due to low participation of travelers or outsource to other big group tour operators for their travelers, we guarantee that we will never cancel a trip because of low signing-up or participation for the departure date neither get our travelers to other tour operators! This makes to our travelers the assurance and peace of mind to know their travel plans are insured and guaranteed.

Probably you will see that most of the tour operators mention it on their websites that are local tour companies, however, if you research a little deeper you will find out that’s not true, they might be although half of the operation is done from here and another half abroad, they even have NorthAmerican phone number or European phone numbers, which is a clue to find out, we are not against the foreigner companies or half foreign companies, what we are against is that they lie.

In Cusco exist just few truly local tour operators. If you did not know, foreign companies come to Peru to get rich without paying a General Sales Tax or Tax Contribution to our country. If you did not know that, according to the United Nations, for every US $100 spent on a tour in a developing country or foreign travel companies, only $5 stays in the local economy. Normally, almost all of the money flows back to large companies operating outside the destination countries. As we are a local family enterprise, we guarantee that your travel expenditures will support the local economy, and improve the lives of Peruvians through contributing to general sales tax.

Be a responsible traveller! Let’s make this world a better place for everyone and for everyone that lives in it! The natural environments that we travel to are fragile and abundant with beautiful culture and traditions that are often reliant on tourism. We have a responsibility as travelers to minimize the impact of our presence, protect what is delicate, and leave a positive influence everywhere we can.

As a locally owned and based Peruvian tour company, we integrate these practices into our in-country operations we are aiming for a style of travel that makes the world a better place for everyone, and for everyone that lives in it. Since our very first days as a tour operator, responsible business has been at the heart of what we do. Peru Summit Adventures is committed not just to treading lightly, but to making a real difference by helping and investing in local communities, education initiatives, environmental conservation projects. These values are not more than just words, they are ingrained in the culture and philosophy of our crew, daily operations of Peru Summit Adventures trips, and at our office too.

Whats the Trip Like

Average daytime temperatures in and around Cusco generally range from 55º – 75º F with evenings cooling down into the 40º and 50º. Much of this itinerary takes place in the mountains, where weather can change very quickly and evening temperatures regularly drop into the 30º and 40º. As our treks are planned during the “dry season”, days are typically clear and pleasant, with afternoon clouds occasionally building and leading to small amounts of rainfall, and morning temperatures usually range from 35º and 45º with some frost on the tents, and frosty plains in some locations. While April and November departures may experience slightly higher amounts of rainfall, all-day rain is unusual. We will be hiking over multiple mountain passes which are over 14,104 ft, so should you be prepared for unpredictable mountain weather.
