The best month to visit Machu Picchu is June, this month coincides with the typical celebrations due to the anniversary of Cusco, after the second week of June there are many typical celebrations in Cusco city (shows, colorful dancers, local musicians, food exhibitions, etc) that are worth enjoying while scanning the city downtown. Besides June is a month within the dry season so the weather is perfect for any tour and hike (blue sky and starry nights). We also recommend any time between May through August, these months are within the dry season.
It is allowed only carry-ons on the train, any large suitcase should be stored at your hotel in Cusco.
The most recommended circuit is the number 2 and then the circuit that includes the Inca Bridge. Both circuits allow you to explore the whole Machu Picchu citadel. To secure these tickets, we strongly suggest you book the tours or purchase your tickets 3 months in advance at least. For further information about the circuits at Machu Picchu, click here.
Our recommendation is to book this tour or the tickets at least 3 months in advance, tickets mostly sell out 2 months in advance during the high tourist season.
Most of the tours have an overnight in Aguas Calientes town also called Machu Picchu town, this town is mainly a tourist hub where there are only hotels, shops, restaurants, or anything else for tourists. For some visitors, the town is charming while for others is just a tourist town, once here you will make your own thought of the town. The reason to be a tourist town is because is the only closest town and the main gate to Machu Picchu Citadel where all visitors gather from different routes.
Yes, it is totally possible to make a day trip to Machu Picchu from Cusco or Sacred Valley.
Yes, the Huayna Picchu ticket includes Circuit 4 and the Machu Picchu Mountain ticket includes Circuit 3, which is the middle part of Machu Picchu. If looking for a full circuit ticket, then we suggest you purchase a regular extra ticket to Machu Picchu whose cost is $65.00 USD.
No, you can’t. It used to be but now a ticket is only for a single tour inside the citadel, if want to enjoy a morning visit and an afternoon visit, then our recommendation is to get 2 tickets for both schedules.
Yes, you can. The hike is about 2 hours from Aguas Calientes Town, the trail is very steep and the forest is very humid so expect to finish the hike all sweaty.
Yes, you can. There is a hike that’s called 1 day Inca Trail to Machu Picchu, which is exactly the same as the 2 day Short Inca Trail, the only difference is that you hike and visit Machu Picchu in a day and the same evening you return to Cusco. You just need to be physically able to make this 1 day hike. For further information visit the 1-day hike page here.
